Description

It may not look it, especially when standing on its hind legs, but the black bear is actually one of the smallest bear species. Endemic to North America, the black bear often wanders into urban areas in search of food and is the most commonly encountered species of bear.

  • Scientific Name: Ursus Americanus
  • Characteristics: Although many individuals associate a bear standing on its hind legs as an aggressive or defensive posture, it can also indicate a curious bear that just wants to get a better look at something. Hand painted and expertly sculpted, this inquisitive bear makes an excellent gift for a nature enthusiast or as an addition to a figurine collection, and is also a great educational resource and toy for play!
  • Size and Color: With a shadowy black coat and tawny brown nose, this figurine captures the most common coloration of the black bear. Our standing black bear model measures 1.95 inches wide and 4 inches tall, a touch smaller than a soda can.
  • The Standing Black Bear is part of the Wild Safari® North American Wildlife collection
  • All of our products are Non-toxic and BPA free

History

Black bears are a prominent symbol in American history and folklore. In Navajo culture, it was believed that the black bear was the strongest of all bears and it was often respected and even prayed too. Human encounters with black bears rarely lead to serious injury or fatalities despite how common they are. In most cases, black bears are just looking for food and in doing so often wander into human populated areas. In fact, only 10% of all humans encounters with a black bear result in injury.
