History:

Though they resemble mice, Sugar Gliders are actually related to possums. They are known as volplane, or gliding, possums and are native to Australia. They use their gliding ability to get from tree to tree, and are almost never found on the ground.

Sugar Gliders are currently considered a “Least Concern” species by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), meaning they are not believed to be in imminent danger of extinction at this time. Though they do face threats due to habitat loss, they are highly adaptable and can usually survive as long as they have enough trees to glide between.
