History:

Llamas were domesticated around 6000 years ago. Like their relative, the Alpaca, Llamas currently exist solely in a domestic state. The wild form of the Llama is believed to be the Guanaco. Llamas are used as pack animals and can cover distances of 20 miles a day while loaded with up to 75 lbs. of weight. Llamas are also used for their wool, leather and meat as well.

Llamas have a reputation for spitting, though they usually only spit at humans if they have been over-socialized and begin to treat humans as they would treat other Llamas. The spitting behavior is a way that Llamas express dominance over others in the herd, as Llamas are always challenging each other over their position within the group.
