History:

The name anhinga comes from the Brazilian Tupi language, and it means snake bird. Anhingas were given this name because when they’re in the water only their neck is visible, and it looks remarkably like a snake. While there is no concrete number for the worldwide anhinga population, they are classified as a species of least concern due to how commonly they are sighted in their natural habitat.
